A Life On Our Planet - 4 Simple Actions You Can Take

Last night many of us settled in our homes to watch David Attenborough’s ‘A Life On Our Planet’. David’s witness statement to the decline on our natural world was both heartbreaking and devastating but eventually hopeful.

Many of us know we could be doing more for the planet but time and budgets take over. It’s an ever learning process but hopefully after watching the film we realise our part to play.

This is a quick post in reponse to the film and by no means an exhaustive one but if you feel helpless and frustrated after watching the film the following are a few actions you can take today that are simple, won’t cost you anything and can be done in your lunch break.

Install Ecosia

Ecosia is an alternative search engine that uses their profits to plant trees. It runs on 200% renewable energy and they will never sell your data onto advertisers and they run no third party trackers on your data and usage. Your search results will look different to Google and this is because it’s not personalised - those of you who also caught The Social Dilemma will be attracted to this. Get Ecosia here.

Switch your bank

It was a shock for viewers to hear that their banks invest in the mining of fossil fuels. I can only speak for Monzo as that’s who I’m with but switching was a breeze - I installed the app, entered my details (it took 5 minutes) and within a few weeks Monzo had transferred everything over and closed my old account down with my less ethical bank. Triodos have the best ethical credentials but you can read more here.

Switch energy supplier

Again, it’s an absolute breeze to switch energy suppliers. I switched to Bulb a few years ago and my bills have been consistently low and I love how easy it is to track my usage. I can’t speak with expertise about how green Bulb in comparison to other companies but it’s a huge step in the right direction. Compare renewable energy suppliers here and if you sign up to Bulb use this link to get £50 credit.

Install Co-Go

Co-Go is an app that tracks and helps you offset your carbon footprint. Connect it to your bank and it will help you make better choices by tracking your spending and help you learn more about what your local businesses are doing for human and planet welfare. Install here.
