Portable Scent Therapy - the Neom Mini Diffuser

I am big on scent and the power of plants. For centuries the power of plants have been used medicinally through scent and I am here for embracing what has served us well. But I’m also fussy with it, I won’t have candles made from badly produced waxes and you can keep your sickly sweet scents thanks very much.

Remember oil burners? So lovely except for the endless supply of Ikea tea lights and Body Shop Vanilla shockers. Then there was the sticky mess that was the oil bowl.

We’ve been trying to get scent into our homes and no-one quite cracked it until the diffusers came along. Genius! These lovely little contraptions blow out a mist that scents a room. But it had it’s irritations - you have to fill with water also, have it near to a plug and have to go through the whole well of water to change scent - you don’t really want your eucalyptus blend blasting out when you’re trying to sleep.

So when Neom bought out the portable mini pod I was swiftly adding it to my gift list but the team kindly sent me one as I work with them on photography. This little diffuser has become my best friend - I take it everywhere! On the bathroom shelf when I have a bath, by my computer while working, in my cup holder when I’m driving in the van, by the sofa when I’m watching a film, in the kitchen when I’m cooking, at bedtime at home or in the van.

The diffuser comes with a little nozzle remover tool and the diffuser draws straight from the oil bottle created a lovely, condensed mist that is meant for small spaces but I find I can use pretty anywhere. I’ve even had it on in the garden.

In this post I’m going to run through the scents I use for different scenarios.

Journaling and life admin.

I have a spot in my living room that I reserve especially for life admin and journaling. It’s my thinking spot and the sofa is my relaxing spot! I’m a big believer in keeping spaces for particular things. it’s something James Clear talks about in his Atomic Habits book too.

In this chair a lot of my self care happens - I sit and crunch the numbers on my finances, I thrash out anything I’m struggling with or note the wins in my journal, I plan my weeks in my planner and I brainstorm ideas. What an important corner of my little home!

So depending on what time of day I’m here I either use the Scent to Make You Happy Orange Blossom & Neroli blend or if it’s a moment of reflection before bed then I’ll crack out the Bedtime Hero and take it to bed with me afterwards.

In The Kitchen.

I love me a cooking session. I can get lost in a cookbook and my favourite way to spend a Sunday is batch cooking for the week ahead with a podcast, audiobook or radio station on and my pod mini going with the Scent to Boost Your Energy Grapefruit, Mandarin and Eucalyptus blend which not only keeps me feeling upbeat but also helps to ward off any cooking smells.

It also works for the van too and someone even stuck their head in the other day when I was working out in a car park in the first to ask what it was!

At My Desk.

This one’s a no brainer - it has to be Focus The Mind all the way from the Boost Your Energy range. With Pine, Cederwood and Eucalyptus who needs to go the forest anyway? I feel really connected to nature working away with this scent filling my nostrils.

By The Sofa.

I think this might be my favourite Neom Scent (although it does oscillate) - this is the Black Pepper and Bergamot blend from the Scent to Destress collection. It’s the perfect companion for a film or a post dinner cosy catch up and cuppa with a friend.

In The Bathroom.

Real Luxury from The Scent to Destress range is one that holds a special place in my heart! When I moved back to Brighton after being away for 5 years it was the diffuser I had that filled the flat I had started renting off a friend with gorgeous scent as I renovated it. It’s also one of Neom signature scents and sums up the brand for me! It’s a blend of Lavender, Jasmine and Brazilian Rosewood and is a delight for the senses.

It’s worth noting that it’s not recommended the diffuser is used near water so make sure you place it on a shelf away from steam and water!

At Bedtime.

It has to be Bedtime Hero for that beaut smell of chamomile, ylang ylang and cederwood. After my evening routine of journaling and checking in with my day I take my diffuser to bed with me where I fill in my One Line A Day, climb into bed and read my book before slipping off to sleep. Monty clearly likes it too as he’s taken to insisting coming to bed with me…. must nip that in the bud.

While Driving.

Who doesn't want some beaut essential oils filling their nostrils while cruising along? Whether you’re headed to work or exploring you can’t go wrong with the Happiness blend. With neroli, mimosa and lemon this mood lifting combo will have you singing to some cheery tunes while keeping you nice and awake while you navigate your way.

General Van Life.

From planning my days in the mornings to cooking and settling down to sleep I’ve got a blend for everything. All of the above work just wonderfully for moments in the van. Currently Neom have got £40 off the Scent to Make You Feel Good set. If you’re wondering how long each bottle lasts it depends on the intensity you have your diffuser set to but here is the rule of thumb:

Intensity Setting 1 - Duration: On for 15 seconds, off for 2 minutes 45 seconds - Essential Oil Consumption: Up to 50 hours

Setting 2- Duration: On for 30 seconds, off for 2 minutes 30 seconds - Essential Oil Consumption: Up to 25 hours

Setting 3 - Duration: On for one minute, off for 2 minutes - Essential Oil Consumption: Up to 12.5 hours.

Storing Your Oils and Diffuser.

I found a carry case on ebay, it’s not the prettiest because it has blue piping (hence these photos being in black and white) but it really does the job. It came with removable sections so you can customise it. Just use search term ‘essential oil carry case’ and you’ll find something similar.
